In today’s devotion (Catching Whimsy, Jan 4), Bob Goff challenges readers to establish a new habit BUT not without first examining the motivation behind it.
Because I’ve had significant time this past year+ to consider my life and what about it I’d like to change, I already had four new habits in mind for consideration. Three of them are ones I have over the years repeatedly tried to establish; I’ve failed with each of them every single time.
As I contemplated that fact, I saw that each of those habits were changes I felt I should make. Not one of them was motivated by what Goff explains is the key motivation. A new habit, he advises readers, must speak to the deepest parts of you and will truly motivate you”.
The fourth possible new habit does just that for me.
In response to today’s action point to “establish something new, whimsical, and lasting into your life”, I plan to pause in a pleasant, peaceful place either mid-morning or midafternoon every day (that I am physically able to) for at least 30 minutes to read and ponder the day’s devotion, respond to it here, and implement as promptly as possible any action step I feel led to take.
What about you? What is tugging at your heart? What change is your soul calling you to make?
